It can feel defeating trying to lose pockets of stubborn fat with traditional diet and exercise. For men who want to put the finishing touches on their weight loss or gym efforts, liposuction is a long-term option.
What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that can remove stubborn pockets of fat. For many men, fat exists on the body in certain places no matter what amount of dieting and exercise they do. Liposuction is a permanent way to get rid of it and achieve better contours. Once removed entirely, fat cells can no longer expand with weight gain. Liposuction can be performed on virtually any area of the body, including:
- Chest
- Stomach
- Love-handles
- Chin
- Hips
- Flanks
- Thighs
- Arms
Liposuction is a type of body contouring and is also commonly used in gynecomastia procedures.

Is Liposuction Right for Me?
Men who can benefit most from liposuction are those who are bothered by stubborn fat and want more definition. In order to be considered a good candidate for liposuction, you should be in overall good health and at a stable and healthy weight. That’s because weight fluctuations can negatively impact your results. If you’ve recently lost significant weight or still have weight to lose, Dr. Trupiano can discuss the right time for your procedure. It’s important to note that liposuction cannot get rid of stretched skin – if you have leftover skin after significant weight loss, Dr. Trupiano can discuss your body lift or non-surgical skin tightening options.
Your Liposuction Procedure
Liposuction can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on your needs. To begin, Dr. Trupiano will perform tiny incisions in the treatment area, taking care to conceal them within the natural contours of your body in case any scarring becomes visible. Then, a cannula (or blunt-tipped tube) is inserted to break up the fatty tissue under the skin. A surgical vacuum removes the fatty tissue, and the incisions are closed. Once complete, you can return home.

Liposuction requires about 1-2 weeks for recovery. During this time, you’ll be instructed to wear a compression garment on the area to prevent swelling and fluid buildup, as well as help mold your results. You should wear your garment as much as possible for the first few weeks. It’s normal to experience some discomfort and swelling which can be managed with prescribed medications. Make sure to avoid elevating your heart rate or exercising until cleared by Dr. Trupiano. After about 1-2 weeks, you can return to your normal activities. Although you might see results within a few weeks, it can take up to six months for your final results to emerge as all swelling subsides. With a healthy and active lifestyle to prevent weight fluctuations, you can enjoy long-term results with liposuction.
