John Trupiano, MD

As you age, it’s normal for the brow to begin to sag and crease. The brow lift can smooth and tighten the brow for a more awake, refreshed look.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, sometimes called a forehead lift, is a plastic surgery procedure that can tighten and lift the skin and tissues of the upper face. Whether because of aging, genetics, or expressiveness over the course of a lifetime, the brow is one place where aging signs can begin to show before anywhere else. This can make you look older, angrier, or more tired than you really feel. The result of a brow lift is a smoother, more awake look.

Is a Brow Lift Right for Me?

The brow lift is a good option for patients who are experiencing the following symptoms:

  • Sagging, heavy brows
  • Hooded upper eyelids
  • Low eyebrows
  • Creases and 11 lines
  • Deep brow furrows

In order to be considered a good candidate for a brow lift, you should be in overall good health and have realistic expectations for your brow lift procedure. A brow lift can make you look like a younger, more refreshed version of yourself – not somebody else. Additionally, Dr. Trupiano will make considerations based on your hairline in order to ensure you have a minimal chance of visible scarring or further recession.

The brow lift can easily be combined with other facial plastic surgery procedures like the facelift, neck lift, or eyelid surgery. In some cases, you may be a better candidate for eyelid surgery if your concerns include heavy upper eyelids. Your board-certified plastic surgeon can help you determine the right surgical plan for your needs during your consultation.

Your Brow Lift Procedure

A brow lift is typically performed using local anesthesia and sedation. There are two types of incisions that can be used during a brow lift – a “traditional” coronal incision or a very small one that allows for the use of an endoscope. During either procedure, the tissues of the brow (including the underlying muscles) can be lifted and tightened. Then, the skin is tightened over top, and any excess skin is trimmed away. Finally, the incisions are closed, and you can return home.

Brow Lift Results and Recovery

Most patients require 1-2 weeks of downtime to recover from a brow lift. During this time, it’s important to keep your head elevated and avoid raising your heart rate. Instead, focus on resting and managing your symptoms like swelling, discomfort, and bruising. There is minimal scarring involved with a brow lift but it’s still normal to experience bruising for up to a few weeks. Most swelling should subside within a few weeks, but it can take 1-2 months for your final results to settle in. Most patients enjoy long-term results with a brow lift (with the right skincare regimen and anti-aging steps) with a smoother, more awake look to the upper face.
