John Trupiano, MD

It’s normal to be bothered by the look, length, or asymmetry of your labia. If you feel self-conscious about it in intimate situations or wearing certain outfits, a labiaplasty procedure performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon can help.

What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that reshapes, reduces, and rejuvenates the tissue of the vulva. It has the goal of reducing the size of the labia minora if they stick out beyond the labia majora. It can also reduce asymmetrical labia, as well as uncomfortable symptoms like:

  • Poor hygiene
  • Pain during intercourse
  • Irritation
  • Dryness

Many women also experience difficulty wearing certain outfits or doing certain activities because of their labia. Labiaplasty can also achieve relief and lead to a more fulfilling, active lifestyle. Labiaplasty can be performed on its own, but it’s also commonly included in mommy makeover procedures.

Is Labiaplasty Right for Me?

Labiaplasty is a great option for patients who are uncomfortable with the look of their labia. In order to be considered a good candidate for labiaplasty, you should be in overall good health and have a positive outlook and realistic expectations for what labiaplasty can achieve. If you’ve recently undergone childbirth, you should wait until you’re fully recovered before undergoing surgery.

Your Labiaplasty Procedure

Labiaplasty can typically be performed using local anesthetic and sedation. There are two different techniques available, which will be discussed during your consultation. The first is the trim technique where the length of the labia is trimmed down, and the edge is sutured. The second technique is the wedge technique where a wedge-shaped piece of skin is removed, and the sides are sutured together (this preserves the natural edge of the labia). Once complete, you can return home.

Vaginal Rejuvenation FAQs

How quickly does the O shot work?

After receiving an O shot, patients should see improvements within 3 weeks. It can take about 3 months for the tissue to fully regrow.

What is labial rejuvenation?

Labial rejuvenation or labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects irregularly shaped labia or large labia. Tissue will be carefully trimmed to create a more proportional, aesthetically-pleasing look.

Labiaplasty Results and Recovery

You should plan at least one week of recovery after labiaplasty. During this time, you should avoid strenuous activities and an elevated heart rate. It’s normal to experience swelling, sensitivity, and discomfort during this time. You’ll be given prescription medications to help manage pain and prevent infection, as well as detailed instructions on how to care for your incisions, urinate, and maintain hygiene in the area. You can typically return to basic activities within 1-2 weeks but should only return to regular exercise and sexual intercourse after following up with Dr. Trupiano. Labiaplasty can produce long-term results as long as you avoid future pregnancies. Many women enjoy a more confident outlook and greater enjoyment of their favorite activities after labiaplasty.
