Whether you’ve lost significant weight or are simply undergoing the process of aging, it’s normal to be dissatisfied with the look of your thighs. The thigh lift is a surgical procedure that can remove stretched skin and fat for a tighter, more contoured look.
What is a Thigh Lift?
A thigh lift, sometimes called thighplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure that lifts and reshapes the thighs when they have excess, sagging skin or stubborn fat. It’s common for people to carry weight in their thighs which can be difficult to get rid of with diet and exercise. If you do lose significant weight, it’s possible to be left with excess skin. The thigh lift is often part of a body contouring after weight loss procedure that might also include an arm lift, tummy tuck, or liposuction.
Is a Thigh Lift Right for Me?
The thigh lift is an effective option for patients who have lost significant weight and now have stretched, sagging skin on their thighs. It’s important to be at a healthy and stable weight before undergoing a body contouring procedure since weight fluctuations can negatively impact your results. For best results, it’s also recommended you be finished having children. To be considered a good candidate for a thigh lift, you should be in overall good health and have realistic expectations for what a thigh lift can achieve.
Your Thigh Lift Procedure
The thigh lift is typically performed under general anesthesia. During your consultation, you’ll discuss the different incision patterns available. These include:
- Inner thigh lift incision (along the groin and down the inseam)
- Outer thigh lift incision (around the hip bone and across the back)
- Minimal incision thigh lift (a short incision within the groin area)
Dr. Trupiano will make the appropriate incision and trim away excess skin. Liposuction can also be performed on the surrounding areas for better contours around the hips and flanks. Once complete, Dr. Trupiano will close the incisions and you can return home.

How long is recovery from a thigh lift?
Thigh Lift Results and Recovery
Recovery from a thigh lift procedure typically takes 1-2 weeks. During this time, you should plan to avoid extensive activity and focus on resting. You’ll be given prescription medications to help manage pain and swelling, so take these according to instructions. You’ll also be given compression garments to wear as much as possible for the first several weeks. This can prevent swelling and fluid buildup, as well as help the skin adhere to the new contours. You can return to your regular exercise regimen and activities after a few weeks. In order to maintain your results, it’s important to live a healthy and active lifestyle to prevent weight fluctuations – given this, a thigh lift can produce long-term results.
