What is BOTOX?
Botox is an injectable product that contains botulinum toxin. It comes in powder form and is purified and derived from bacteria. Called neuromodulators, these types of botulinum toxin type A injections block muscular nerve signals. This blockage weakens the muscle, which stops it from contracting. This results in less unwanted facial wrinkles as well as furrows and folds. BOTOX treatments have been on the market since 1997 and is one of the most widely-used cosmetic products available.

Is BOTOX Right for Me?
A combination of factors can cause facial lines. It’s not just about the cellular changes that may occur, or reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment. Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines (called dynamic wrinkles). BOTOX works beneath the surface of the skin and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults – and helps them look visibly smoother.
If you have mild to moderate aging signs and want a younger, fresher look, then BOTOX is an excellent option. However, if your signs of aging are more severe or you have skin laxity, you may need to consider a facial procedure like a facelift or non-surgical skin tightening for best results. Your BOTOX Procedure
BOTOX takes 10-15 minutes and can be performed right in our Troy, MI office. To begin, you’ll meet with our injectors and discuss your goals with BOTOX. Then, the treatment area will be cleansed. The product is injected into the muscles using a very fine needle in a few different areas (most patients don’t even require an anesthetic). Once complete, you’ll return home with aftercare instructions from our team.
BOTOX Results and Recovery
Immediately after your procedure, it’s important to exercise the treated muscles to help the product bind to the receptors. For the first few hours, avoid bending over or laying down, as well as exercising or being in hot environments. You should also avoid rubbing or massaging the treatment area for the first few days since this can cause the product to spread to unwanted areas. It can take 1-2 weeks for your BOTOX results to take full effect, after which you can return for additional units if needed. BOTOX lasts for 3-4 months (depending on many different factors), and you’ll enjoy a smoother, younger look that maintains your natural expressions and facial movements.
