What is a Facelift?
A facelift is a surgical procedure that corrects noticeable signs of aging in the face and neck, such as:
- Drooping in the center of the face
- Deep folds and wrinkles below the lower eyelids
- Deep lines alongside the nose, also called “parentheses” lines
- Sagging facial fat
- Fat that has disappeared, leaving hollows
- Skin tone loss in the jaw area that forms jowls
- Flabby skin and accumulated fatty deposits under the chin and jaw that gives you a double chin, even if you aren’t overweight
Am I a Good Candidate for a Facelift?
You are a good candidate for a facelift when:
- You are healthy with no medical issues that would hinder healing.
- You are a non-smoker.
- You have a positive outlook and realistic expectations.
- You want to have a younger-looking appearance in your face and neck areas.
What Can I Expect During a Facelift Procedure?
To begin the procedure, you are given either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. You and your doctor will decide which is best for you.
The incision typically starts in the hairline (under the hair to hide the incisions) by your temple area. It circles the ear and stops in the lower scalp. Optionally, fat may be contoured or shifted around from the face, jowls and neck. Also, tissue is repositioned, usually in the deeper facial layers. Then, the skin is then draped back over the lifted areas, and any excess skin is removed and is sutured with fine sutures so you have the best result possible.
If the neck is included, another incision is made underneath the chin and used to improve the neck’s signs of aging.
Sutures or adhesives made for the skin are applied to close the incisions.
To improve the appearance of droopy jowls, saggy neck skin, and to remove fat that’s accumulated under the chin, a neck lift is performed.
- Our advanced techniques are designed to rejuvenate the neck for natural-looking enhancement that is tailored to the unique anatomy and goals of each patient.
- The incision typically starts in front of the ear lobe, comes around behind the ear, and ends in the lower scalp.
You may have noticed that skin around your upper eyelid has become loose over time, or that the skin under your eyes is baggy every morning—not just after a late night of little sleep. An eyelid procedure, or blepharoplasty, will help to alleviate puffiness in and around your eyelids, reduce puffiness under your eyes and tighten the excess and wrinkled skin around your eyelid.
Over time, the skin around your eyelid will stretch, the muscles will weaken and fat pockets may become more prominent. Surgery can be performed on either the upper or the lower lid, or on both lids. During eyelid surgery, excess skin—and sometimes muscle and fat—will be removed from either or both the lower and upper eyelids. Additionally, the upper lid can be “lifted,” making you look more alert and energized. In an eyelift procedure, the muscle and tendon around the upper eyelid will be tightened.
Recovery Time after Blepharoplasty
Recovery time after eyelid surgery is relatively short. For the first couple of days, the use of a cool compress can help reduce swelling and bruising. The swelling will quickly go down and the bruising will begin to fade. You will likely be able to return to normal activities within seven to ten days after the procedure.
While uncommon, there are some risks associated with eyelid surgery. These risks include infection, bleeding, scarring, inability to close the eyes, dry eyes, double vision and loss of vision.
After eyelid surgery, the world will see a younger, brighter and “new” you.
Brow Lift Surgery
A brow lift can be performed by endoscopic incision or coronal incision. During the former procedure, an endoscope—a thin tube with a camera on the end—is used to examine the inside of the body in a minimally invasive way. Next, small incisions are made within the hairline. The tissue and muscle beneath the skin, the source of visible wrinkles on the forehead, is then adjusted. During the coronal procedure, an incision is made from ear-to-ear, within the hairline, over the top of the head. The forehead skin is then lifted and the muscles are properly adjusted. Post-recovery, all scarring will be covered by the hair.
The surgery may take anywhere from four to five hours. Dressings will typically be removed from your face within two days after the surgery, and stitches will typically be removed within five to ten days after the surgery. You will experience temporary bruising and will be advised to keep your head elevated as much as possible to combat any swelling. After two to three weeks, you should be able to return to all normal activities.
A brow lift will ultimately leave you looking younger and more alert. Years of troublesome signs of aging will fade away. Many patients, post-surgery, feel a great boost in self-confidence. Many patients also feel a reduction in anxiety over the impending onslaught of yearly birthdays.

Ear Surgery – Otoplasty
Ear surgery, also called otoplasty, helps to improve the shape, position or proportion of the ear. Otoplasty also corrects any defects in the structure of the ear that can be from a birth defect, happen during the body’s development, or from an injury.
Ear surgery creates a more natural-looking appearance to the shape of the ear while improving the balance and proportion of the ears in relationship to the face. Even minor deformities, when reshaped, can have deep-seated, positive benefits to one’s appearance and self-confidence. Similarly, children can benefit from corrective ear surgery if they have disfigured or protruding ears.
Ears that stick out from the head can benefit by a form of otoplasty called ear pinning. Ears are pinned, so that they’re flatter against the head. If the ears are asymmetrical, where one ear is noticeably larger or out of alignment compared to the other, ear surgery can reposition them to create a matching shape or better alignment.
Ear Reshaping and/or Reduction Procedure
An incision is made behind the ear, inside the fold, where your ear meets the head. Dr. Trupiano then takes out or softens areas of cartilage and skin to achieve the desired results. In some instances, Dr. Trupiano trims the cartilage, shaping it into a more natural-looking profile. He then secures the cartilage back into place with internal, non-removable stitches.
Ear Pinning Procedure
For correction of ears that stick out from the head, Dr. Trupiano uses a surgical procedure to form or increase the Antihelical fold located slightly inside ear rim, as well as reducing any enlarged conchal cartilage located in the deepest cavity of the external ear.
Earlobe Reduction & Repair
Different than an otoplasty, which repairs issues with the rim and prominence of the ear, earlobe surgery can repair or reduce the size of the earlobe. For many reasons, earlobes can become stretched, damaged, or disproportional over time, leading to embarrassment or negative self-image. This common and straightforward procedure can help patients restore balance and harmony to their profile.
What is an Earlobe Reduction/Repair?
This procedure can take on different forms, depending on the ears being treated. The three most common types of procedures are:
- Gauge Repair, which fixes the large holes left by long-term wear of these earpieces.
- Earlobe Tear, which can be caused by heavy earrings worn over a lifetime.
- Earlobe Reduction, due to lengthening of the earlobe as aging occurs.
Along with these common types of repair, many patients opt to have an earlobe reduction because of genetics or developmental problems. Whatever your reason for pursuing a reduction or repair, Dr. Trupiano can help determine the best plan for your procedure.
Who is a good candidate for this procedure?
You can consider an earlobe reduction or repair if you:
- Are self-conscious of your earlobes and find yourself trying to cover them up.
- No longer wear gauges and would like to get rid of the remaining holes.
- Have experienced tearing from wearing heavy earrings for many years.
- Feel like your earlobes have become flat, deflated, and elongated because of aging.
- Are in good health and are able to undergo surgery.
What happens during a consultation?
During your consultation with Dr. Trupiano, he will closely examine your earlobes to determine how best to reduce or repair them, including the best location for incisions in order to yield the least amount of scarring. He will also ask some questions about your medical history and reasons for undergoing this procedure. Pre-operative care instructions might also be given. Be sure to ask any questions you might have during this time.
What is the procedure like?
The length and steps of your procedure will depend on the problem area being treated. Most methods of repairing or reducing the earlobes involve removing excess skin through an incision and suturing the remaining skin together. Dr. Trupiano will ensure you know the specific steps of your procedure prior to the operation.
What about the recovery?
Because this procedure is not highly invasive, the downtime required is minimal. Some dressings and care steps will be necessary, but your recovery will not disrupt much of your normal schedule. You may be prescribed some medications to manage pain and assist with healing.
Will there be scarring?
Some visible scarring is possible, depending on the extensiveness of the procedure. However, Dr. Trupiano will ensure they are as unobtrusive as possible— the goal is for you to show off your new ears, not hide them.
