Eyelid Lift

Eyelid Lift in Troy, MI | Dr. John Trupiano

Bright, awake, and alert eyes are not only beautiful, but they are functional. As we age, our skin loses elasticity and our face loses volume and our muscles can weaken, meaning the muscles and tissues surrounding our eyes. All of these changes can lead to sagging or drooping upper eyelids and significant bags under the eyes. An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure designed to rejuvenate the appearance of the eyes and eliminate any functional concerns that excess skin may be causing.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. John Trupiano deeply understands the important connection between physical appearance and emotional well-being. By working with one of Michigan’s most respected plastic surgeons, you can take a thoughtful step toward feeling more confident and at ease in your own skin.

What Is An Eyelid Lift?

Medically known as blepharoplasty, an eyelid lift is a procedure designed to correct sagging or drooping of the upper and lower eyelids (either together or separately) that can cause people to look tired or angry all the time. Aesthetic concerns aside, drooping eyelids, weakened muscles, and excess skin can cause vision impairment. By removing the excess skin and fat and trimming the surrounding muscles as needed can restore your field of vision.

An eyelid lift can correct:

  • Heavy, hooded eyes
  • Sagging or drooping of the upper eyelids that impairs vision
  • Undereye bags or troughs
  • Deep lines or folds around the eyes

This procedure is quick but offers dramatic improvements to your appearance.

Dr. Trupiano will then perform a physical examination of the tissue around your eyes, explain what he feels can be accomplished, and create a comprehensive treatment plan that honors your goals, values, and natural beauty.

Patient education is one of the cornerstones of Trupiano Plastic Surgery’s practice philosophy. Preparing for Your Eyelid Lift Consultation

Informed consent is an integral part of ethical patient care. As such, Dr. Trupiano encourages patients to come to their consultations after researching blepharoplasty procedures. They should be able to articulate their goals, have a realistic understanding of the costs, and be ready to ask informed questions. Some questions that would be helpful to ask during your consultation are:

  • How do your patients feel about their blepharoplasty results?
  • How do results change over time?
  • How long should I expect my results to last?
  • How do you handle surgical complications?
  • How long can I expect recovery to take?
  • Do you think that my goals are anatomically achievable?
  • Will I have visible scars?
  • What happens if I am unhappy with my results?
  • Will I need subsequent surgeries to maintain my results?
  • How do you ensure that my results will look natural?

During your consultation, you and Dr. Trupiano will discuss whether you are needing an upper eyelid lift, lower eyelid lift, or both. Depending on your goals, needs, and budget, these procedures can be done together or separately.

The questions you ask Dr. Trupiano will be unique to your personal goals. During your consultation, you will feel the personal attention and commitment to excellent care and ethical responsibility at the center of Dr. Trupiano’s philosophy. At Trupiano Plastic Surgery, you will always feel supported and welcomed from the moment you schedule your consultation to long after your treatment is complete.

Results are long-lasting, with many patients enjoying their youthful appearance for 10–15 years, if not a lifetime. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and skincare routine helps prolong the results.

Non-surgical treatments like dermal fillers, laser resurfacing, or radiofrequency treatments can improve mild eyelid sagging. However, surgery provides the most dramatic and long-lasting results.

Patients are typically advised to wait at least two weeks before applying eye makeup to avoid irritation and ensure proper healing. You should wait until after you are cleared by Dr. Trupiano to wear makeup.

Incisions are carefully placed in natural eyelid creases, making scars virtually invisible once fully healed.

Insurance may cover the procedure if it is deemed medically necessary, such as in cases where sagging eyelids impair vision. Cosmetic procedures are typically not covered.

While mild swelling is normal, excessive pain or swelling should be reported to Dr. Trupiano immediately for evaluation.
