The eyes are the window to the soul, which is why when sagging eyelid skin begins to make you look tired or aged, it can be concerning. As we age, our skin loses collagen and elasticity, which can lead to eyelid drooping. For some, this drooping can become so severe that their vision becomes partially blocked. Blepharoplasty, or an eyelid lift, is an effective solution to restore your eyelids to a youthful position for a more confident you.

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

During this procedure, your surgeon will remove excess fat and skin above and below the eyes. This can help you to achieve a more alert, youthful appearance. Blepharoplasty can be divided into two
categories, including upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery. These procedures can also be combined.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper eyelid surgery only addresses the upper eyelids. An incision is created in the natural fold of your upper lid, through which excess tissue and fat are removed, and surrounding muscles are adjusted.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery only addresses the lower eyelids. A small incision is created inside of your lower lid, so any scarring will be hidden. Through this incision excess fat is removed that may be causing baggy lower eyelids. Any excess skin of the lower lids can be removed with a small incision just below the lash line.

Combining Blepharoplasty with Other Procedures

In many cases, a blepharoplasty can be combined with other cosmetic procedures to address aging in many areas of the face. Eyelid surgery is commonly combined with a facelift or a brow lift to achieve a more comprehensive improvement. If you are interested in learning which procedures can be combined to help you achieve your anti-aging goals, schedule a consultation appointment at our Troy, MI office today.

Blepharoplasty Recovery

One of the benefits of blepharoplasty surgery is that it is an outpatient procedure, so you can return home after to recover. Some initial discomfort is to be expected, though over-the-counter or prescribed pain medication can help you feel more comfortable. Swelling and bruising should subside within a week, though cold compresses can help to reduce inflammation quicker. Your results will gradually appear over time as swelling and bruising resolve.
