Look and Feel Your Best with Michigan's Preferred Board Certified Cosmetic Plastic Surgeon
Overly large breasts can cause physical discomfort. Many women also feel self-conscious about breasts that are out of proportion with the rest of their bodies. Breast reduction surgery, also known as mammaplasty, removes the excess fat, glandular tissue and skin from the breasts.
During the surgery, which lasts about three to four hours, you will be medicated with either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. The nipple will be repositioned and the underlying breast tissue will be reduced, lifted and shaped. To create and support the new, smaller breasts, sutures will be layered within the breast tissue.
The results of the procedure will be visible immediately, and as the swelling subsides, your satisfaction with the procedure should grow. You should be able to return to normal activities after fourteen days, but you will likely be instructed to wear a support bra day and night for three to four weeks. Your new breast shape and position with settle over the next few months. While incision lines will be visible, with time, they will somewhat fade.
You will appreciate the comfort that comes with having smaller breasts and a more balanced figure. You might find, too, that your self-confidence has grown significantly.
